The Senior Club would yet again like to congratulate Adam Taylor, for his recent successes. The Bishopstown Junior Open Tournament ran from July 7th - 21st. As always, the event was well supported and attracted a large entry with competitors travelling from all over Munster and also from Leinster
Adam entered in the Under 12 Boys Singles and had a tough first round draw against the 2nd seed; he was beaten and entered into the Plate. He had 2 matches to get to the final, where he won very decisively.
St Anne’s Senior Open Week ran from Sunday June 30th til Saturday July 7th and quite a contingent of Causeway players made the trek. St Anne’s Tennis Club is the largest in Waterford County and one of the biggest in Ireland boasting 1,500 members. The Open tournament had a total of 298 entrants competing in 25 events. The Causeway club members who entered were Jacek Krym, Brendan O’Hara, Martina Beresford, Clodagh Carthy, Denis O’Donovan, Piotr Seweryn, Dariusz Tobolski, Trevor Cleary, Kevin Leech and Joseph Baborak.
This week’s featured Open Week is Senior Open Week at Kilkenny Lawn Tennis Club, also known as The Championships of County Kilkenny. This was a very large and well run tournament with 230 entrants competing in 24 events. The Causeway club members who entered were Nancy Cleary, Trevor Cleary and Sinead Conroy.
Sinead Conroy entered the singles grade 4 and the ladies doubles, grade 4 also, with Nancy Cleary as her partner. Congrats to Nancy and Sinead for reaching the semi-finals, where they met the number 1 seeds, and unfortunately were knocked out of the competition.
Last week we had a round-up of our own Senior Open Week and this week we have news from another nearby club’s Open Week – Hillview in Clonmel. Seven of our members entered the Hillview Senior Open Week which ran from Sunday June 9th til Sunday June 16th, and these were Martina Beresford, Orla Hayes, Ger Kelly, Piotr Seweryn, Peter Malachowski, Trevor Cleary and Ger Cusack.
And now what you’ve all been waiting for … the second installment of the Senior Open Week at the Causeway.
This has been a fabulous week at the Causeway Tennis Club! The Senior Open Week exceeded all expectations. The weather was spectacular – we couldn’t have planned for better! – and the tennis was riveting. A huge thank you to those members who contributed their time to running the kitchen and to the ladies who provided the delicious treats sold throughout the tournament. It was such a lovely way to spend the glorious evenings we had – sitting on the balcony sipping wine, munching on a burger (expertly made by Denis O’Donovan!), and watching some magnificent tennis. It was hard to leave.
The Senior Open is scheduled from Sunday 2nd until Saturday 8th June and is open to all levels. Entrants will be coming from all around the area. Entry forms are available to download from the club website (www.causewaytennisclub.ie) or on the notice board in the clubhouse. Enthusiastic participation from club members will be necessary to make this the successful week that we wish it to be. This is always a great week with many enthralling matches, so come along and show your support!
The Senior Club would like to congratulate Adam Taylor, who recently won the Under 12 Singles Plate in the Carrigaline Open. The Annual Junior Open Tournament was held over the May Bank Holiday weekend at Carrigaline Tennis Club in Co. Cork. As always, the event was well supported and attracted a large entry with competitors travelling from all over Munster and also from Dublin. Each round was the best of 2 sets, with a championship tie-break (first to 10 points, win by 2) at 1-1.
