On Friday evening last, 26th August, in glorious sunshine, Mr Ray O’Dwyer, County Manager, officially opened the new Bowling complex which includes facilities for both lawn bowls and french boules (also known as pétanque). Also addressing the large attendance was Cllr Teresa Wright, Town Mayor, who congratulated all concerned for providing Dungarvan with such a wonderful amenity. Dr Tom Higgins, President of the Causeway Tennis and Bowls Club, welcomed the general public to come and have a roll before deciding whether to become a member.
Club members and interested parties are invited to the club for the official opening of the bowls complex this Friday the 26th August. Ray O’ Dwyer, the Waterford County Manager, will open the complex and proceedings will run from 7:30 pm.
Our Grade 5 ladies travel to Ballinlough in Cork next Saturday morning, 27th August, to play in the grade 5 ladies Summer Cup Competition. A 4-0 win at home in July in their first round match against Ballyhooley secured them their place in the semifinals of the competition. Team:- Martina Beresford, Sinead Conroy, Orla Hayes and Miriam Matthews.
This coming weekend, the 20th and 21st August, the annual veterans weekend competition takes place. Ger Cusack, Ber Sheridan and Niall Herlihy are busy catering for an entry of up to 100 players from the south east and beyond, who will play in the age categories of over 35s, 45s, 55s and 65s. Despite their advanced years, these seasoned players are sure to serve up an exciting weekend of tennis.
